Rebuilding an Underperforming Engineering Organization
Leadership work completed before SK2 Consulting. Each case reflects the named founder’s responsibilities within the organization.
The challenge
A software company depended on an outsourced development team that kept missing deadlines and offered little visibility into progress, while the company also needed a replacement for its flagship platform.
The work
Brought in to audit engineering, Speros reviewed delivery, code, structure, and staffing, and gave leadership options.
Asked to lead the fix, he built an in-house engineering, QA, and UX team from scratch and ran two tracks at once: stabilizing the existing product while building its replacement.
The outcome
The company replaced its outsourced vendor with its own engineering organization and a defined development process. The team stayed in place after he left.
How this appliesWhen a team keeps missing deadlines, more pressure rarely fixes it. An outside audit shows whether to strengthen the team, restructure it, or change the model.
